What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractic is the largest and most popular drug-free healthcare system in the world. Chiropractors work with the
bones of your spinal column and the nerves in and around your spinal cord, respectively. Why?
Hidden deep inside your body
is the most powerful “mainframe computer” in the universe. It stores a lifetime’s worth of experiences and is
networked to trillions of smaller “computers,” coordinating their operations telling them what to do and when to
do it so the whole system functions properly. All these “computers” are connected with many billions of special
“wires.”
What is your mainframe made
of? Not metal, silicon and plastic- it’s mostly water, floating in a special protective, temperature-controlled
hard casing.
As you’ve probably guessed,
the “mainframe” is your brain, the smaller computers are your cells, tissues, organs and systems and the “wires”
are your nerve fibers. The protective casing is your skull.
Your Brain and Body
Your brain controls your body
functions. How does your brain “talk” to your heart, lungs, kidneys, stomach, and other organs? They “talk”
through a vast communications system of nerve “wires.” Nerves leave your brain and travel from your skull as a
tightly knit bundle of billions of nerves- your spinal cord.
You get your teeth checked,
your eyes checked, why not your spine?
Nerves from your spinal cord
travel through and out of your spinal column and touch every part of you. These nerves carry messages to and
from your brain which is how your brain controls and coordinates the function of your billions of body parts:
muscles, organs, glands, tissues and all the rest.
Chiropractors spend years in
highly specialized training to learn to locate misplaced spinal vertebrae that are interfering with the nerves
around your brain and spinal cord. After locating spine and nerve stressed caused by a vertebra impinging the
nerves (subluxations), your chiropractor, using various highly specialized techniques, is able to realign your
vertebrae and thus release pressure on your nerves and body structure. This procedure is called chiropractic
spinal adjustment.
Most are
Unaware
Often people are totally
unaware that they have subluxations in their spine. That is because many nerves send no pain messages and you
may not know that they are being stressed or damaged. For example, you can feel when something happens to your
skin (which is full of sensory nerves that send messages to your conscious brain) but not your liver (which has
no sensory fibers going to the conscious brain). When nerves not connected to the conscious brain are damaged,
the brain doesn’t feel any pain-even though the nerve damage may be causing disease or physical malfunction.
That is why vertebral subluxations are sometimes referred to as “silent killers.”
Improper Nerve Supply
The area fed by the impinged
(damaged) nerves may receive a faulty or improper nerve supply for years. All the while there may be no pain and
you may be totally unaware of your condition. Your body may be weakening and actual damage to the spinal column,
nerves and organs may be occurring. Subluxations may be undermining your health for years, while you are unaware
there is a serious problem. This process is similar to that of tooth decay where you may have dental caries for
a long time and yet feel no pain. All the while however, your tooth (or teeth) are continuing to
decay.

The
chiropractor’s role is to educate as well as to
adjust patients.

The lucky ones
People who have neck or back
pain are, in a way, lucky. They know there is a problem in their spine and many do the smart thing: go to a
chiropractor. Others may suffer from digestive problems, headaches, colds, menstrual cramps, depression,
seizures, skin conditions and many other problems and not know that they have a spinal problem and that a
chiropractic spinal adjustment could make a major difference in their health.
Millions of Subluxations
Millions of people are walking
around with many subluxations! They don’t feel anything wrong in their backs or necks so they think their nerves
are fine and they never get their spines checked by a chiropractor. How wrong they are!
Spinal
Checkups
You get your teeth checked,
your eyes checked your hearing checked occasionally-why not your spine? It only takes a short time, its fun and
your whole nervous system will thank you for it.
True Health Assurance
Many people bring in the whole
family-true health assurance, making sure they are free of “silent” subluxations now, so they won’t experience
“noisy” illness later.
